Light Bulb Recycling

Fluorescent light bulbs contain the nerve toxin mercury, a liquid metal that can be harmful to human health if inhaled or ingested.

ACDEM offers a household light bulb recycling program to Allen County residents free of charge at partner stores.

Remember

  • Light bulbs up to 8 feet in length are accepted at our business partner stores and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility. Residents can bring up to 10 light bulbs to partner sites at a time.
  • If recycling multiple bulbs, please place them in a box or plastic tote. Bulbs placed in bags can break and threaten our staff's safety as they remove the materials.
  • Residents recycling more than 50 bulbs at the HHW facility must register.
  • When combining fluorescent bulbs for recycling, please wrap them carefully with twine or string. Bulbs that are taped together run the risk of breaking.

To learn the appropriate cleanup protocol after breaking a fluorescent bulb, call ACDEM's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 260-449-4433 or Indiana Poison Control Center at 800-222-1222.
